10–30 cm. Metsissä. Yleinen. Teriöt valkeat t. heikosti
punertavat. V–VI. Lehdet pitkulaisen vastapuikeat, nahkeat,
talvehtivat, laidoiltaan taakäänteiset, alta hienopisteiset. Kukat
tertuissa. Teriö kellomainen. Marja pallomainen punainen.
Prostrate or scrambling evergreen dwarf shrub, with some erect stems.
Leaves elliptical-oblong, leathery, untoothed, dark green above,
paler dotted with with glands below, with margins down-turned.
Flowers in shot dense clusters, bell-shaped, 5-8mm long, white or
pink, with 4 or 5 lobes and with a protruding style. Berry globose,
shiny red, to 10mm in diameter. Widespread on moors, heaths, montane
pastures and in coniferous woods, on acid soils. Fl. 6–8. Br In
hilly or mountain areas, from N England northwards.
